Austria's Nationalrat passes 179 laws in first 495 days of coalition

Since the inauguration of the ÖVP‑SPÖ‑Neos coalition, Austria's Nationalrat has adopted 179 laws over 495 days, averaging about 2.5 measures per week. More than 70% of the decisions received votes from opposition members, with 44% passing with opposition support and 28% approved unanimously. Only 28% were enacted solely with the governing majority, meaning opposition backing was present in roughly 72% of cases.

The parliamentary session also saw 48 disciplinary warnings, 40 of which (83%) were directed at FPÖ members. The SPÖ club leader highlighted that this output ranks as the second‑highest number of laws passed by a government in the same timeframe, surpassed only by the pandemic‑era green coalition, which passed 243 laws.

These figures illustrate a relatively active legislative period marked by notable cross‑party involvement and heightened parliamentary tension.
