Autódromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez undergoes major asphalt renovation

The Autódromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez in Buenos Aires is undergoing a massive infrastructure project involving the application of 43,000 tons of asphalt. This renovation is being conducted to prepare the venue for the MotoGP Grand Prix scheduled for April 9–11, 2027, and to support potential future bids for Formula 1 racing.

The project utilizes the SmoothRide system, which integrates advanced technology including RD-M1 3D scanners to survey the track at driving speeds, MAGNET Office Resurfacing and MAGNET Construction software for digital design, and GNSS systems with Sonic Tracker sensors for the automatic control of milling and paving machinery. This approach allows for variable asphalt thickness based on existing track deformations.

To ensure quality, thermal monitoring devices are used to maintain asphalt mixtures within an optimal temperature range of 150 to 160 degrees Celsius. The paving process consists of three layers: an 8-centimeter base layer using AM3-AC19 mixture, a 5-centimeter intermediate layer using AM3-AC12, and a 4-centimeter final wearing course using HIMA-AC12.
