Authorities address Dory 2 commissioning difficulties in French Polynesia
French state authorities, local government, and the Port Autonome de Papeete have issued a joint statement addressing the difficulties surrounding the commissioning of the vessel Dory 2. The institutions aim to clarify recent criticisms and reaffirm their commitment to ensuring safe maritime service to the Tuamotu islands, which is a vital economic and social link for the region.
Authorities reported several instances of non-compliance since the vessel left the shipyard on June 24, 2026. These issues include irregularities regarding entry and residency procedures for crew members and personnel, as well as violations of labor regulations, specifically concerning authorizations required by the SEFI.
The statement also addressed docking disputes in Papeete. The Port Autonome stated that the shipowner was informed in February that quay usage would depend on availability and safety compliance. When the preferred location was occupied on August 20 and 21, alternative solutions were offered but reportedly rejected by the shipowner.
