Authorities arrest suspects in human trafficking and passport forgery cases
Authorities in Costa Rica and Spain have conducted separate operations targeting human smuggling and document forgery.
In Costa Rica, Border Police apprehended a Nicaraguan national in the Los Chiles canton for allegedly transporting an adult and a child with irregular migratory status. The suspect, who had been previously detained two years ago, faces potential prison sentences of up to eight years. This arrest brings the total number of suspected human traffickers detained in Los Chiles this year to ten.
In Mallorca, Spain, National Police arrested three women and one man for involvement in a document forgery scheme. The women were initially identified while attempting to board a flight to the United Kingdom using fake passports. Following surveillance, officers intercepted the group in the Arenal area as a man handed them an envelope containing three forged French passports and 800 euros. A subsequent search of the man's hotel room led to the seizure of additional funds totaling over 4,000 euros. The man also faces charges for facilitating illegal immigration.
