Authorities conduct raids in Bolivia and US involving financial crimes
In Bolivia, authorities conducted a raid on a property linked to political consultant Fernando Cerimedo, founder of La Derecha Diario. During the search of a residence in the Aranjuez area, the Prosecutor's Office seized over 500,000 bolivianos, along with amounts in dollars and euros. The investigation focuses on allegations of illicit enrichment.
Investigators also recovered electronic devices that they have preliminarily described as a ‘mini bot farm.’ These devices are undergoing technical analysis to determine their function and whether they were used for illegal activities. The findings are significant given Cerimedo’s background in digital political strategies.
Separately, in Monroe, US, police dismantled an illegal gambling operation at a business on Old Morgan Mill Road. Officers seized thousands of dollars and various gambling devices during the raid. The owner, 43-year-old Yang Xiong of Fort Mill, South Carolina, was arrested and faces charges of operating illegal gambling. Xiong also had outstanding arrest warrants from Mecklenburg County related to similar previous activities.
