Authorities conduct school inspections in Peru and Mexico

Authorities in Peru and Mexico are conducting inspections of educational facilities to assess living conditions and infrastructure damage.

In Loreto, Peru, the Contraloría conducted a control visit to the Higher Technical Police School and the Alfredo Vargas Guerra barracks. Regional Control Manager Juan Antonio Becerra reported that officials verified dormitories, services, and food quality. A formal report on these conditions is expected shortly. Additionally, the entity is monitoring the Iquitos Hospital and investigating irregularities at the Petronila Perea de Ferrando school, where a water tank was falsely reported as demolished and paid for.

In Guerrero, Mexico, the Secretariat of Education (SEG) has requested school directors to report damages caused by torrential rains from storm “Simón”. Officials, including SEG head Ricardo Castillo Peña and IGIFE director Enrique Ramírez Barrios, toured schools in Acapulco and Coyuca de Benitez to coordinate repairs. At least 27 schools in Acapulco have been designated as shelters to provide refuge for the population affected by the weather.
