Authorities coordinate evacuations amid landslide and flood risks in Chile and Honduras
In Chile, government officials from Subdere Biobío and regional authorities have deployed to the Arauco commune to coordinate a preventive evacuation in Villa El Mirador. The area is under a Red Alert issued by Senapred due to the risk of mass soil movement. Authorities are working with local leaders and families to organize safe evacuations, provide housing alternatives, and coordinate with Carabineros to secure homes and belongings.
In Honduras, the Secretariat for Risk Management and Contingencies (Copeco) has extended a green alert for 48 hours in Tegucigalpa and near Lake Yojoa. In the Central District, monitoring is focused on the La Cabaña, Buenos Aires, and Villa Adela neighborhoods, where recent rains have triggered landslides and geological instability. Meanwhile, flooding near Lake Yojoa has already forced some families to evacuate. Copeco has advised citizens to avoid crossing swollen rivers and to clear drainage systems to mitigate flood risks.
