Moldova and Romania intensify enforcement on labor and border regulations
Authorities in Moldova and Romania are intensifying enforcement actions regarding labor laws, immigration, and border integrity. In Moldova, Minister of Labor and Social Protection Natalia Plugaru reported that over 12,000 individuals were identified working without contracts during the first nine months of 2026, with more than 8,100 subsequently regularized.
In the same region, a corruption investigation at the Giurgiulești Border Inspection Post has led to the preventive arrest of two suspects. The National Anticorruption Center alleges that inspectors from the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) accepted bribes from businesses to allow the transport of goods and animals without required health certificates.
In Romania, labor inspectors in Gorj County issued fines totaling 422,000 lei against three companies for employing seven people without contracts. Additionally, immigration officials in Botoșani conducted approximately 50 inspections, resulting in 26 individuals being found in illegal situations and 10 return decisions being issued.
