Authorities debunk RMS flag hoax in Negeri Aboru

Authorities in Maluku have dismissed viral social media reports claiming that a flag associated with the Republic of South Maluku (RMS) was raised in Negeri Aboru, Central Maluku.

Kodam XV/Pattimura clarified that the information is a hoax. Instead of an RMS flag, local residents participated in a celebration by stretching a 500-meter Indonesian Red and White flag to commemorate the 81st Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia. The military stated that the visit by Pangdam XV/Pattimura, Major General Dody Triwinarto, to the area proceeded safely and peacefully.

Polresta Pulau Ambon also conducted patrols in Negeri Aboru to ensure public order and security following the viral posts. Police officials confirmed that no such flag was found and noted that the circulating images were actually old documentation being re-uploaded. Authorities have urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information to maintain regional stability.
