Authorities in Aboudeïa launch peace campaign to prevent farmer-herder conflicts
Local authorities in the Aboudeïa department of Chad have initiated a sensitization campaign to prevent community tensions between nomadic herders and farmers. Mahamat Soumaïne Hassan, the prefect of Aboudeïa, has been touring the region's eight sub-prefectures alongside six canton chiefs to promote peaceful coexistence.
A central focus of the mission is the strict respect for transhumance corridors to avoid territorial disputes. In the Darasna area near the Am-Taror pond, Sub-prefect Al-Mahadi Youssouf Al-Mahadi has also been visiting nomadic camps to advocate for mutual respect, environmental protection, and the prevention of bushfires, particularly near the Zakouma National Park reserve.
These preventative measures follow recent violent clashes in the Mouray sub-prefecture, which resulted in 12 deaths and 3 injuries. Local leaders and community representatives have expressed their commitment to supporting these administrative efforts to foster social cohesion and prevent further outbreaks of violence.
