Authorities in Angola and Mozambique launch investigations into activists and assassination

In Angola, the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) has summoned five activists to provide statements as part of an inquiry. The summons follows a letter sent to Health Minister Sílvia Lutucuta demanding her resignation due to the perceived degradation of the National Health System. The activists cited issues including hospital mismanagement, shortages of medicine and medical equipment, and high rates of malaria and maternal mortality.

In Mozambique, four individuals have been placed in preventive detention in connection with the assassination of Bishop Osório Citora Afonso. The Bishop was fatally shot at his official residence in Quelimane on June 6. While the Public Prosecutor's Office in Zambézia confirmed the arrests, the details of the investigation remain under judicial secrecy, and the specific involvement of the suspects has not yet been disclosed.
