Authorities in Chile and Mexico launch fraud prevention initiatives

Authorities in Chile and Mexico are launching initiatives to combat various forms of economic fraud and scams.

In the Maule Region of Chile, the National Service for the Elderly (SENAMA) partnered with the Investigations Police of Chile (PDI) to conduct workshops for senior citizens. These sessions aim to provide tools for recognizing and preventing economic crimes, emphasizing the importance of not sharing personal or banking information with strangers.

In Chihuahua, Mexico, the District Prosecutor's Office, in collaboration with the Autonomous University of Chihuahua, has launched the “Detente, Verifica y Protégete” (Stop, Verify, and Protect) campaign. The initiative warns against real estate scams conducted via social media, where criminals pose as owners of apartments or houses to solicit fraudulent reservation fees. Officials noted that 29 complaints have already been filed regarding this specific modality of cybercrime.
