Authorities in La Araucanía implement beach safety measures
Authorities in the La Araucanía region of Chile are implementing new measures to ensure public safety at local beaches. The Ministry of National Assets and the Navy have established a roadmap to monitor and enforce free access to beaches in the Villarrica lake area during the summer season. Officials are coordinating inspections and requesting that citizens report access violations through official institutional channels.
Separately, health authorities have issued a total ban on swimming and recreational activities at Maule Beach in Puerto Saavedra. This decision follows reports from the Navy regarding the presence of Portuguese man o' war (Physalia physalis). Health officials warned that contact with these organisms, whether alive or dead, can cause severe health issues including intense pain, skin irritation, respiratory difficulties, and potential cardiac arrest.
