Authorities in Senegal and Burkina Faso conduct major criminal investigations and seizures
In Senegal, the Ziguinchor gendarmerie has arrested twelve individuals following an investigation into suspected criminal association and ‘acts against nature’. The operation, which took place between August 14 and 17, 2026, began in the Périsac district. Investigators utilized digital evidence, including WhatsApp messages and data extracted from seized mobile phones, to identify the suspects. While reports indicate the individuals may have admitted to the allegations during questioning, legal guilt remains subject to judicial proceedings.
In Burkina Faso, the national gendarmerie conducted two operations near the village of Hamélé in Ouessa, resulting in the seizure of significant quantities of illegal agricultural supplies. Between May and June 2026, authorities discovered 42.5 tonnes of fertilizer and approximately 1.29 tonnes of unapproved pesticides. The total value of the seized goods is estimated at 21.92 million FCFA. Officials stated that the sale of these fraudulent products causes serious economic harm by bypassing national regulations regarding the import and distribution of agricultural inputs.
