Authorities intercept gold smuggling attempts in Dubai and Mumbai

Authorities in Dubai and Mumbai have intercepted separate attempts to smuggle gold through international transit points.

In Dubai, customs inspectors seized 460 grams of 24-karat raw gold that had been melted into thin rods and hidden within the structural frame of a suitcase. The concealment method was designed to bypass standard X-ray detection, but was identified via unusual electronic screening readings. Dubai Customs reminded travelers that they are legally responsible for all items in their luggage.

In Mumbai, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) intercepted a smuggling attempt at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Security personnel observed a loader and a female transit passenger—who had arrived from Dubai and was traveling to Bangkok—exchanging items near an international boarding gate. A search revealed approximately 1,311 grams of gold concealed in socks, valued at roughly Rs 1.61 crore. The individuals and the gold were handed over to the Air Intelligence Unit for investigation.
