Authorities investigate animal cruelty in Ávila livestock farm

An inspection related to recent wildfires in the province of Ávila, Spain, has uncovered a livestock farm in El Tiemblo where numerous goat and sheep carcasses were found piled up. According to the animal protection association La Voz Animal, some of the animals had been dead for several months.

Beatriz Menchén, president of La Voz Animal, described the site as a “farm of horrors,” noting that living animals were kept amidst the carcasses without sufficient food or water. The discovery was made by volunteers who were in the area to assist animals affected by fires in Burgohondo.

The Civil Guard, through its Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA), has conducted an inspection. Two individuals are currently under investigation for alleged animal abandonment and cruelty. Veterinarians from the Junta de Castilla y León also participated in the investigation, taking samples from carcasses to determine the exact causes of death, though initial assessments suggest prolonged starvation. Living animals have been placed under sanitary measures to prevent the spread of potential infectious diseases.
