Montenegro police arrest five in organized arson and explosives crackdown
Montenegrin authorities have arrested five individuals suspected of belonging to an organized criminal group involved in arson and the use of explosives across central and southern Montenegro. The suspects include two Serbian citizens and three Montenegrins.
According to the Police Administration, the group is suspected of setting fires and using Molotov cocktails to obtain illegal property gains over the last 15 days. One specific incident involved the destruction of three vehicles in Marići, causing approximately 170,000 euros in damage. Police also intercepted a plan to burn two cargo vehicles in Tivat, valued at 90,000 euros, and recovered a hand grenade near the Bar railway station.
In a separate legal matter, Montenegrin police filed criminal charges against a company in Budva and its Turkish director for suspected tax evasion. The suspect is accused of failing to report and pay VAT on transactions totaling approximately 277,982 euros, resulting in a loss of 35,311 euros to the state budget. The director had previously been extradited from Kazakhstan to Montenegro regarding separate fraud charges.
