Chiapas authorities arrest suspects in double femicide case
Authorities in Ostuacán, Chiapas, have detained two suspects linked to the double femicide of Miriam Cruz Alpuche, 55, and her 12-year-old granddaughter, Ariana Scarlett Velázquez. The victims had been reported missing on October 19 after leaving their home to check livestock.
Forensic examinations revealed that Miriam died from sharp-force injuries to the neck, while the minor died from asphyxiation and suffered sexual assault. Following the announcement of the arrests, a group of local residents gathered in the central park of Ostuacán and forcibly took the detainees from police custody. Reports indicate that one suspect was lynched and killed, while the other was severely beaten.
Governor Eduardo Ramírez appealed for calm, urging the community to trust legal institutions and avoid vigilante justice. The state prosecutor's office is seeking up to 100 years in prison for the perpetrators.
