Authorities investigate fatal shooting in Guatemala and violent assault in Argentina

In Argentina, family and friends of 20-year-old Cristian Dos Santos Silva marched in Apóstoles to demand justice following a violent attack. The incident occurred on October 11 when a group of hooded individuals intercepted Silva and his partner. Silva was beaten unconscious; while his belongings were largely intact, he suffered severe injuries and remains in intensive care at the Ramón Madariaga Hospital in Posadas. Two individuals, aged 18 and 19, have been detained, and two other minors have been notified of the case.

In Guatemala, authorities are investigating the assassination of former prosecutor and lawyer Juan Francisco Solórzano Foppa. The 43-year-old was shot and killed on October 17 while playing soccer at Campo Marte in Guatemala City. The attack also resulted in the death of Gustavo Adolfo Aguilar Gamarro. Two men have been detained in connection with the double homicide, and police seized a firearm and a motorcycle during the operation. Solórzano Foppa, a former head of the Superintendencia de Administración Tributaria, had recently released a video questioning a military operation in Huité, Zacapa.
