Authorities investigate separate missing persons cases in Guatemala and Spain
In Guatemala, the remains of 49-year-old Pedro Celestino García López have been discovered in a forested area seven months after his disappearance. García López vanished on February 21, 2026, after leaving his home to negotiate a real estate transaction. Authorities and family members found clothing at the scene, including boots and denim pants, that match what he was wearing when he disappeared. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) stated that definitive DNA confirmation will take time while prosecutors investigate potential fraud related to the land negotiation.
In Spain, authorities are marking four months since the disappearance of 84-year-old Ángel V. G. in Écija. The man was last seen on May 22 near Carmen Street. Extensive search operations involving the National Police, Civil Guard, and local authorities have utilized helicopters, drones, and canine units across rural areas and the Genil River. While his GPS device was recovered near the Plan Écija Water Consortium, his whereabouts remain unknown. Local officials have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the family as the investigation continues.
