Authorities investigate substandard housing in Mallorca
Spanish authorities have uncovered a case of extreme sub-standard housing in Manacor, Mallorca. During a joint inspection by the National Police and the Government's Housing Inspection service, officials identified nine residents living in a property with severe hygiene and sanitation deficiencies.
The residence reportedly lacked basic facilities, including a toilet, and featured 24 beds, some of which were placed in hallways. Residents stated that the property could accommodate up to 30 people at once, with monthly costs for a bed ranging between 100 and 200 euros.
The property owner faces potential fines between 30,000 and 90,000 euros. The regional government has opened proceedings to initiate a sanctioning file in accordance with the Balearic Islands Housing Law.
