Authorities investigate suspected feminicide of nurse in Bagua

Authorities in Peru are investigating the suspected feminicide of Sharol Cortéz Cruz, a 23-year-old nursing graduate and former Miss Carnaval Bagua. Her body was discovered in an apartment she shared with her partner in Bagua Grande, Amazonas region.

Junior Rodríguez Arista, an anesthesiologist and the victim's partner, has been detained. The Utcubamba Prosecutor's Office requested and obtained a seven-day preliminary detention order to facilitate the investigation. While the detention does not constitute a declaration of guilt, judicial authorities determined there were sufficient elements to warrant the measure.

The victim's family has reported a history of physical and psychological abuse during the relationship. They are urgently requesting toxicological examinations to determine if Cortéz Cruz was sedated or administered any pharmacological substances prior to her death. The Universidad Señor de Sipán (USS) has issued a statement expressing condolences for their former student.
