Honduran police officer detained in death of naval force member
Honduran authorities have detained Emilia Fernanda Rodríguez Armas, a National Police officer, in connection with the death of Waldina Mejía Valle, a 23-year-old member of the Honduran Naval Force.
Investigations by the Technical Criminal Investigation Agency (ATIC) and the Public Ministry indicate that the shooting occurred on August 31 in Tegucigalpa. While initial theories suggested a robbery, investigators have since discarded that hypothesis after reviewing surveillance footage that showed the two women engaged in an argument.
Ballistic analysis conducted by Forensic Medicine laboratories revealed that shell casings found at the scene match the service weapon assigned to Rodríguez Armas. The victim was transported to Hospital Escuela but succumbed to her injuries on September 1.
