Mexico authorities process adolescent for CJNG-themed extortion
An adolescent in Tultitlán, State of Mexico, has been linked to a criminal process for extorting a school classmate. The suspect allegedly used the name of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) to intimidate the victim through cyberbullying and direct threats.
According to the State of Mexico Attorney General's Office (FGJEM), the harassment spanned several months and included the publication of denigrating social media stories and intimate photographs. The suspect reportedly demanded money and pressured the minor to leave her school to avoid physical harm to herself and her family. After the victim paid a sum of 500 pesos to prevent the release of images, the suspect allegedly failed to honor the agreement and escalated the intimidation by leaving a written message at the victim's home identifying as a member of a criminal group.
The suspect has been placed in the ‘Quinta del Bosque’ detention center for adolescents and faces a potential sentence of up to three years of confinement under the National Law of the Integral Criminal Justice System for Adolescents.
