Authorities manage burials in Chile and investigate deaths in Venezuela
In Chile, an elderly couple, Mónica Saavedra and Ramón Fernández, were finally buried together in the Combarbalá Municipal Cemetery. The couple, who lived in the Arrayán Costero sector, were found deceased in their home in September 2025. Because they had no direct family to claim their remains or manage funeral arrangements, they remained in the custody of the Legal Medical Service (SML) in La Serena for nearly ten months. The burial was made possible through coordinated efforts between the Regional Ministerial Secretariat of Justice and Human Rights, the SML, and the Municipality of Combarbalá.
In Venezuela, authorities in Barquisimeto are investigating a suspected femicide-suicide involving a young couple found dead in a hotel room. The victims, identified as 27-year-old José Gregorio Cordero García and 23-year-old Natacha Minerva Ortiz Díaz, were discovered on September 8 at the Hotel París. The Cicpc is investigating the hypothesis that a dispute occurred following the end of their relationship, leading to the deaths. While both victims had gunshot wounds, family members of Ortiz Díaz claim she was strangled before being shot. The bodies have been transferred to the National Service of Medicine and Forensic Sciences for autopsies.
