Authorities monitor Como following threats of looting and violence

Authorities in Como are on high alert following social media threats of looting and violent protests scheduled for Saturday, October 24. Local police have already summoned three minors, aged 16 and 17, for questioning regarding incitement to commit crimes within a group chat titled ‘24. 10 Como’. These individuals have been reported to the juvenile prosecutor's office in Milan as investigations continue to identify other group members and the chat's creator.

Local officials, including Mayor Alessandro Rapinese, stated they are working in constant coordination with the prefecture and police headquarters to maintain order. While social media polls suggested intentions to target specific retailers, officials have emphasized that there is no evidence of an organized external plot.

To ensure public safety, law enforcement is monitoring arrivals from surrounding provinces and increasing surveillance. Despite the tension, business leaders and the Mayor have reassured citizens that markets and shops will remain open, urging the public not to panic.
