Authorities report sexual assault incidents in Venezuela and Chile
In Maracaibo, Venezuela, authorities from the Cuerpo de Policía Bolivariana del estado Zulia (Cpbez) detained a 17-year-old male accused of sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl in the Torito Fernández neighborhood. The investigation began after the child's mother reported that the teenager used force to assault the minor. The suspect was medically evaluated before being transferred to police custody. The case has been referred to the 31st Prosecutor's Office, which specializes in the criminal responsibility of children and adolescents.
In Iquique, Chile, a 27-year-old Venezuelan national was sentenced to three years in prison for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old on public transport. The attacker used a sharp object to threaten the victim on a bus line. Following a report by the victim's family, the Policía de Investigaciones (PDI) identified the suspect through social media profiling within 24 hours. The court denied the defendant any benefits, noting his irregular immigration status in the country.
