Authorities sanction businesses for selling expired food in Honduras and Argentina

Authorities in Honduras and Argentina have taken action against businesses for violating food safety and consumer protection regulations.

In Honduras, the Consumer Protection Directorate announced that five businesses will face sanctions for selling expired or unfit food products. Director Danilo Lou stated that inspections are being conducted primarily in tourist areas during the Semana Morazánica to ensure compliance. In addition to expired goods, officials identified establishments failing to apply mandatory discounts for senior citizens. Potential fines range from one to 10,000 minimum wages, though no businesses have been closed as of yet.

In Venado Tuerto, Argentina, a warehouse was preventively closed following an inspection by the Food Safety Directorate. Inspectors discovered expired products, containers with erased expiration dates, and meals of unknown origin stored at improper temperatures. The establishment also lacked commercial permits, food handling certifications, and pest control. Furthermore, officials noted risks of cross-contamination due to raw meat being stored alongside ready-to-eat foods, as well as improper storage of products directly on the floor.
