Authorities seize animals and food products in regional inspections
Law enforcement and sanitary authorities in Paraguay, Ecuador, and Argentina have conducted operations targeting animal welfare and food safety violations.
In Paraguay, police intercepted a Scania truck on route PY02 in Caaguazú transporting 26 horses in poor physical condition. The animals exhibited visible wounds, lacerations, and exposed fractures. While the driver possessed a transit guide for transport from Pacobá to a slaughterhouse in Carapeguá, officials noted inconsistencies in animal identification marks. Prosecutor Norma Chávez ordered the seizure of the horses and the vehicle, with an estimated commercial value of G. 202 million.
In Ecuador, the Environmental Protection Unit (UPMA) conducted sanitary inspections in Guamote, Chimborazo. One milk collection center was closed, and four other establishments were inspected to ensure compliance with animal product handling regulations.
In Argentina, the Salta Police seized 40 kilograms of meat in Joaquín V. González due to hygiene and conservation irregularities. The inspection, ordered by local judicial authorities, found over 37 kilograms of meat in a refrigerator that failed to meet sanitary standards, resulting in an infraction for the business owner.
