Authorities seize counterfeit Disney and Sanrio goods in Mexico and Peru
Authorities in Mexico and Peru have conducted significant operations against the sale and importation of counterfeit goods involving major brands such as Disney, Barbie, and Sanrio.
In Mexico, the Secretariat of the Navy and the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) seized over 31,000 allegedly pirated products valued at nearly 3 million pesos. The operation, titled “Limpieza desde la Raíz,” targeted 12 establishments across the states of Mexico, Querétaro, and Hidalgo. The highest economic value of goods was recovered in the State of Mexico, followed by Querétaro and Hidalgo.
In Peru, Indecopi sanctioned the company Festivity S.A.C. for importing approximately 20,000 unauthorized products featuring Sanrio characters, including Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kuromi, and Cinnamoroll. The company was ordered to pay a fine of S/ 649,660 and faced the seizure of all infringing merchandise, which included plush toys, backpacks, and stationery.
