Authorities seize eight tortoises in Bono, Italy
Authorities in Bono, Sardinia, have seized eight marginated tortoises (testudo marginata) from a private residence. Following a search warrant issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Nuoro, the Carabinieri and CITES environmental units discovered the animals being kept in an outdoor fenced area without the required licenses or certificates.
While the tortoises were found to be in good nutritional condition, the owner has been reported for the crime of possessing animals in conditions incompatible with their nature. The seized animals will be transferred to the wildlife breeding and recovery center (C.A.R.F.S.) in Bonassai as agreed with the judicial authorities.
