Authorities seize suspected narcotics hidden in toy shipments at airports
Customs officials in Paraguay and Mexico have intercepted separate shipments of suspected narcotics concealed within boxes of toys during airport inspections.
At Silvio Pettirossi International Airport in Paraguay, officials from the National Directorate of Tax Revenues (DNIT) discovered 5.2 kilograms of a substance suspected to be marijuana. The package, which originated from Miami, United States, was being inspected in the cargo area of the National Civil Aeronautics Directorate (Dinac). Notably, an AirTag tracking device was found hidden inside the box, which emitted a sound when the package was handled. The National Anti-Drug Secretariat (Senad) has been notified to lead the investigation.
In Mexico, inspectors at Mexico City International Airport (AICM) detected approximately 2.5 kilograms of a substance suspected to be cocaine. The package, destined for the United Kingdom, was identified via X-ray technology during a routine inspection of international mail. The operation involved the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM), the Secretariat of the Navy, and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection. Samples have been sent to the ANAM Central Laboratory for chemical confirmation.
