Authorities shut down illegal addiction rehabilitation centers in Argentina and Ecuador

Authorities in Argentina and Ecuador have taken action against unauthorized addiction rehabilitation centers operating without legal permits.

In 9 de Julio, Argentina, the “Hasta el Último Día” center vacated its premises following a week of intense scrutiny. The facility had previously faced judicial and municipal alarms in other parts of Buenos Aires province, including a court-ordered closure in Chivilcoy due to operational anomalies. In 9 de Julio, the local City Council unanimously approved a request for information from the municipal executive after characterizing the center’s operations as “clandestine.” The center's management claimed they provide social support without commercial motives and requested more state funding.

In Quito, Ecuador, municipal inspectors permanently closed an illegal rehabilitation center in the San Bartolo neighborhood. The intervention revealed approximately 10 residents living in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions. Inspections found dilapidated infrastructure, expired medications, and decomposed food. Officials also discovered a concealed machete and seized over 50 cartons of school breakfast rations, which administrators claimed were private donations. Local residents had previously reported frequent disturbances and street fights linked to the establishment.
