Authors claim Israel lobby poses threat to U.S. interests

In their new book, ‘The Israel Lobby: America in the Grip of a Foreign Power’, journalists and scholars Eli Clifton and Ian Lustick argue that the Israel lobby poses an ‘extraordinary and extremely dangerous’ threat to United States interests and freedoms.

The authors define the lobby as a collection of organizations, groups, and individuals—including Jews, Christians, and others—who advocate for U.S. policies that align with Israeli interests. They emphasize that it is misleading to claim the lobby represents the entirety of American Jews.

According to the book, Israel has been one of the largest recipients of U.S. aid since the 1970s, accounting for approximately one-quarter of all global U.S. military assistance. Between 1948 and 2024, the U.S. provided over $300 billion in inflation-adjusted credits and grants to Israel, surpassing Egypt’s $179 billion. Additionally, the authors note that the U.S. has provided at least $16.3 billion in military aid to Israel following the events of October 7, 2023.
