Her new work focuses on the cities of Tetuán and Tangier in North Africa, exploring her family's sentimental connection to the region and the historical traces left by Spaniards in the early 20th century. Dueñas also emphasizes her conscious decision to feature female protagonists as a tribute to women who have historically received little recognition in literature.
