Brazil audiovisual sector announces new development funds and film festivals
Brazil's audiovisual sector is seeing several major developments. The second edition of HBF+Brazil, a partnership between RioFilme, Hubert Bals Fund, Projeto Paradiso, and Spcine, is opening applications on September 3 for 11 new fiction feature films in early development. Selected projects will receive 10,000 euros each to advance their production.
In Rio de Janeiro, the 28th Festival do Rio has announced 101 films for its Première Brasil showcase, scheduled for October 1 to 11. The selection includes 45 productions competing for the Troféu Redentor, featuring works such as Carlos Saldanha's ‘100 Dias’.
Other cultural initiatives include the Autêntica Mostra Cinemas do Brasil, which invites various venues to exhibit 24 national films through 2026, and the Filmar Maricá 2026 program, which recently closed with 302 project submissions. Additionally, the Festival de Cinema de Vitória has confirmed its 34th edition will take place in May 2027.
