Autoeuropa workers support June 3 general strike across Portugal

Workers at the Autoeuropa car plant and its surrounding industrial park voted unanimously to back the nationwide general strike scheduled for 3 June. The plenary meetings in Palmela, Setúbal, brought together hundreds of employees who pledged to join all demonstrations against the government's proposed labour‑law reforms.

The strike was called by the CGTP labour federation; the UGT federation did not formally join, though its leader was invited. The protest follows the government's recent approval of a labour‑code revision, announced by Labour Minister Rosário Palma Ramalho after negotiations with social partners broke down. Autoeuropa, a major contributor to Portugal's economy, said it would participate fully in the general strike, signalling broad industrial opposition to the package.

The coordinated action reflects growing tension between Portuguese workers and the administration over the new labour reforms.
