Automakers expand hybrid vehicle competition in Brazil

The Brazilian automotive market is seeing increased competition in the hybrid vehicle segment. The Jeep Renegade, produced at the Stellantis plant in Pernambuco, continues to maintain strong sales despite its age, recording 21,000 units sold in the first half of 2026. Its resilience is attributed to its design, the Jeep brand tradition, and its efficient turbo engine, which now includes a mild hybrid system.

In response to this evolving landscape, Chevrolet has announced that its hybrid versions of the Tracker SUV and Montana pickup will arrive at dealerships in January. These models will feature a new 48-volt mild hybrid (MHEV) system produced in São Caetano do Sul, marking a strategic move to compete with established players like Jeep, GWM, Fiat, and Toyota. This technology will be the first of its kind for GM in the region, utilizing a flex-fuel setup capable of running on both ethanol and gasoline.
