Automakers integrate AI and voice assistants into electric vehicles
Automakers are increasingly integrating advanced artificial intelligence and voice assistants into electric vehicles to enhance user interaction.
Renault has introduced the Boreal, the first model from the brand to feature Google Gemini as standard. This generative AI integration allows for more natural and intuitive voice commands through the openR link system. Drivers can use conversational language to control vehicle functions, such as adjusting the climate control by saying, “Ok Google, it is very hot in here,” rather than using rigid, specific phrases. The technology also enables control over hardware like the sunroof and windows.
In Russia, the Atom 1000, a mass-produced electric vehicle described as a mobile “gadget,” is utilizing its own Atomverse operating system. The vehicle features a voice assistant capable of managing navigation, seats, doors, and climate settings. While the system requires a specific wake word, it is designed to interpret various phrasing styles. For safety, the system is programmed to prevent door unlocking while the vehicle is in motion. The Atom 1000 is currently being produced at the Moskvich plant.
