McLaren to invest £500 million in UK manufacturing and new SUV

McLaren Automotive has announced a £500 million investment plan to expand its manufacturing and engineering capabilities in the United Kingdom. Funded by its Abu Dhabi-based majority shareholder, L’imad Holding Co, the initiative aims to create approximately 1,000 new jobs by 2032.

The investment will support a new assembly plant, the expansion of the Woking headquarters, and a carbon fiber production facility in Sheffield. As part of a major strategic shift, the automaker is also planning to develop its first high-performance SUV, a move intended to broaden its customer base and increase production volumes.

CEO Nick Collins confirmed that the company is working toward a more diverse product lineup, which may include hybrid powertrains and potentially a Grand Tourer (GT) model. This expansion comes as the company seeks to stabilize its finances and transition into a new era of growth following recent restructuring efforts.
