Automakers Renault and Honda emphasize hybrid technology growth
Automotive manufacturers Renault and Honda are positioning hybrid technology as a primary solution for the transition toward low-emission mobility.
Stéphane Deblaise, CEO of Renault India, has stated that hybrids are surpassing diesel engines in both fuel efficiency and driving pleasure. He noted that hybrids offer superior NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) levels compared to traditional diesel. This shift is reflected in European market data from the first half of 2026, where hybrid cars and SUVs accounted for 37% of new registrations, outperforming combined gasoline and diesel models at 29.7%.
Honda is also focusing on its proprietary e:HEV architecture to provide a range of hybrid and electric vehicles across B, C, and D segments. The e:HEV system utilizes a fixed-ratio transmission with a lock-up clutch, allowing the electric motor to manage low to medium speeds while the combustion engine connects directly to the wheels at highway speeds. This design aims to provide linear acceleration and fuel efficiency of over 22 km/l in real-world conditions.
