Recommendations regarding automotive air conditioning maintenance have shifted. While the DGT and RACE no longer officially advise turning off the air conditioning before shutting down a vehicle engine, the practice remains relevant for older car models.

In older vehicles, the air conditioning compressor is connected to the engine via an auxiliary belt, creating an additional load.
