Automotive braking technology advances with Brembo Boldika and maintenance insights
Automotive manufacturers are advancing braking technologies to address different vehicle needs, ranging from maintenance safety to high-mass deceleration.
Brembo has introduced Boldika, its largest and most powerful brake caliper to date. Designed specifically for heavy SUVs and electric pickups rather than supercars, the three-piece caliper features aluminum components and a forged iron core. It is capable of applying up to 8,500 Nm of force and will debut on the Chevrolet Silverado EV RST, a vehicle weighing nearly four tons. The system also incorporates Enesys anti-friction technology to ensure pads return to their initial position quickly.
In terms of consumer maintenance, Fremax highlights the importance of monitoring brake drum wear. Because drums are closed systems, drivers should watch for warning signs such as pedal vibrations, which may indicate an ovalized drum, or metallic noises and grinding, which suggest deep grooves or excessive wear. Neglecting these components can compromise braking safety and damage other parts of the vehicle system.
