Automotive brands hold technical skill competitions for technicians

Major automotive brands Volvo Car Korea and Volkswagen Korea have concluded technical skill competitions for their service center technicians to enhance service quality and expertise.

Volvo Car Korea held its 2026 Painting Function Competition in Eumseong, Chungbuk. Out of 26 participants, eight reached the finals, where they were evaluated on blending and color matching skills. Kong Jong-jin from Taeyoung Motors Daegu Service Center took first place, followed by Lee Hyun-seok of Ajou Autorium Anyang and Kim Dong-ho of Kolon Automotive Pangyo.

Volkswagen Korea conducted its 2026 Technical Championship at the Pyeongtaek Training Academy. The competition involved 90 technicians in the preliminary stages, with 12 finalists competing in vehicle diagnosis, electrical wiring repair, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) testing. Park Min-su from Autoplan Pangyo secured first place, with Lee Tae-kwan from Geo House Jeonju in second and Jang Young-il from Meister Motors Gangnam Daechi in third. The top three winners will receive an overseas training opportunity.
