Automotive experts are providing guidance on essential vehicle maintenance to prevent engine damage and fuel system issues.

Regarding engine care, mechanic Mateo warns against following extended oil change intervals, such as 30,000 kilometers, which can lead to engine degradation. He suggests more frequent changes, such as every 10,000 kilometers, especially for modern gasoline engines. This is due to the risk of fuel diluting the engine oil during the particulate filter regeneration process, which reduces the oil's protective properties. Drivers are also advised to strictly adhere to manufacturer oil specifications to avoid component wear.

In terms of refueling, experts clarify misconceptions regarding summer heat. While some believe fuel expands too much in hot weather to fill a tank, the real danger lies in overfilling after the automatic pump nozzle clicks off. Forcing extra fuel into the tank can occupy the necessary expansion space intended for fuel vapors. This can lead to fuel leaks or damage to the evaporative emission control system as the fuel expands due to heat from the sun and engine.
