Argentina automotive market shifts toward manufacturer-led financing

The Argentine automotive market is undergoing a significant structural shift. According to reports from the Asociación de Concesionarios Automotores de la República Argentina (ACARA), nearly half of all new vehicle registrations in August 2026 were financed through consumer credit (prendas), accounting for 49.9% of total sales.

There is a notable trend of automotive manufacturers taking control of the credit market. Manufacturer-owned financial entities now account for over 43% of new vehicle loans, displacing traditional savings plans and reducing the role of traditional banks, which represent only 13.5% of operations. Brands like Peugeot, Citroën, and Fiat lead in financed sales, with Peugeot seeing 73% of its registrations via credit.

The market is also seeing increased diversity in both pricing and origin. While the JMEV Easy 3 has emerged as the most affordable 0km option at approximately $24.8 million pesos, the overall landscape is being reshaped by an influx of Chinese brands. These include Aion, BAIC, BYD, and Chery, which are expanding their presence across various segments from urban electric vehicles to premium SUVs.
