Global automotive industry sees shifting production and sales trends
The global automotive industry is experiencing significant shifts in production and sales. In Mexico, vehicle exports fell by 12% in September, while production saw a 15% annual decline, potentially due to U.S. tariff pressures. However, specific brands like MG Motor are outperforming the national market, seeing 12.2% growth compared to the industry average of 5%. Meanwhile, Grupo Chirey reported record results, selling over 292,000 vehicles in September with a massive 51% increase in exports.
In Argentina, the sector faces challenges from declining domestic sales and increased competition from Chinese imports. Production and sales have both seen double-digit decreases compared to previous years. To counter these pressures, Stellantis has announced plans to put a new engine into production by the end of the year, supported by provincial tax exemptions in Córdoba to protect jobs.
Globally, Volkswagen Group reported a 9% decrease in worldwide deliveries for the first nine months of the year, largely driven by a 30% slump in the Chinese market. Despite this, the company saw growth in South America and Europe, particularly in the electric vehicle segment.
