In the realm of autonomous driving, Waymo co-CEO Dmitri Dolgov has criticized Tesla’s camera-only approach. Dolgov argues that while vision-based systems can mimic human performance, they lack the safety margins provided by a multi-sensor architecture including LiDAR, which he believes is necessary to exceed human safety levels.

Regarding electric vehicle (EV) performance, Porsche is addressing the lack of tactile feedback in electric sports cars through its E-Shift software. This technology recreates the sensation of an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission in the Taycan, providing virtual gear shifts and a digital tachometer to enhance driver engagement.

Meanwhile, BMW has raised questions regarding evolving vehicle safety ratings. Brendan Michel, BMW Australia’s Product and Market Planning Director, noted that achieving five-star ratings is becoming increasingly difficult as testing protocols shift focus from structural integrity to the presence of specific electronic driver-assistance technologies.
