Automotive industry shifts away from physical Start/Stop buttons

Conversely, manufacturers like Nissan, Kia, Mazda, Peugeot, and Subaru maintain traditional buttons to preserve ergonomics and psychological familiarity for drivers. Other companies, including Renault and Skoda, utilize hybrid approaches by combining automatic activation with secondary backup buttons.

In the context of hybrid performance, the 2026 Alfa Romeo Tonale exemplifies the modern transition, offering an electric-only mode for city driving and a combined hybrid system for high-performance road use. The Tonale's setup utilizes a 1.3-liter turbo engine paired with an electric motor on the rear axle, producing a total of 285 horsepower.
