Automotive industry shifts in Brazil as Toyota closes plant and Stellantis expands recycling

The Brazilian automotive sector is seeing significant industrial shifts. Toyota has officially closed its manufacturing plant in Indaiatuba, São Paulo, after 28 years of operation. Since its opening in 1998, the facility produced over 1.4 million vehicles, including various generations of the Toyota Corolla. The closure, effective June 30, 2026, is part of a strategic reorganization to concentrate production at the company's complex in Sorocaba.

In a separate development regarding sustainability, Stellantis has marked one year of operations at its Circular Autopeças unit in Osasco, São Paulo. The facility focuses on the circular economy by dismantling end-of-life or damaged vehicles to recover usable parts and recyclable materials. In its first year, the center dismantled 1,000 vehicles, recovered approximately 740 tons of materials, and supplied over 8,000 parts to the replacement market.
